How can you wear the biggest Makeup Trends from the runways for Spring/Summer 2016? It’s easier than you think – read on and I’ll show you!
Twice a year, models walk the runways of Paris, Milan, London and New York for some of the biggest names in fashion – these shows have influence over the the look for clothing, our colour palette, hair styles and Makeup! This influence shows up in the trends for the season – the looks we want to incorporate into our daily wear. Makeup for the runway can be a little theatrical and over the top – but there are always little nuggets of brilliance that everyone wants to try. For the Spring/Summer 2016 shows, quite a few makeup looks showed up in the pages of magazines as trending for the season : bronzing and dewy skin – pastel shades of pink, lavender and peach for eyes – glitter and sparkle for eyes, brows, hair and even beards and so much more! I want to focus on my four personal favourite makeup trends.
Anyone can rock a bold lip, it doesn’t matter what your age or your skin tone is – you can find a colour that works. Bright reds, pinks and orange in all shades came down the runways! A bright colour lipstick needs to stand on it’s own – it’s the “statement” – so keep the rest of your makeup neutral. A little bronzed cheek and eye will help that orange to pop! Add a little 50’s glam to your day by winging out some black eyeliner and a gorgeous candy apple red lip or even fuchsia pink! The great thing about this makeup trend is that you have some choices – you don’t have to wear a neon shade of orange, choose a bright peach instead – a pastel pink rather than fuchsia – but be adventurous and try something new! For those that are really daring – why not try the other colours making a big impact this season: Blue, Yellow, Gold and even Purple! How you wear these non traditional colours is similar to other brights – keep your makeup neutral and let your lips be your statement! ilia Beauty, Kat Von D and Maybelline Canada have some amazing and exciting new colours being introduced to the lipstick lineup – give them a whirl!
BLUE EYE MAKEUP
This is not your Granny’s blue eye shadow! Probably one of the biggest makeup trends for the season, with literally 100’s of colour and style options available – there is really no excuse not to incorporate blue into your routine! Wear it anyway you want – line it, smoke it, smudge it – be daring or dramatic, bold or demure! A few simple ways to use blue eye makeup: replace your black eyeliner with Cobalt Blue and do a fresh new cat eye – do a smokey eye with Navy instead of grey – line your eyes with Teal or a shimmery Icy Turquoise – it’s really up to you! Everything works! If you are still a bit shy – try adding just a hint of blue on the lid for a sneaky “flash” of colour! With so many shades of blue available, any of your favourite makeup lines will have at least one – but here are some companies with a fresh view of blue: Make Up For Ever, NARS and Urban Decay – all are available at Sephora.ca
This is a personal favourite of mine – simply because I adore freckles!!! Real or fake, it doesn’t matter – I love them! Faux Freckles are one of the makeup trends that have been around for a couple of years now – seen in beauty editorials around the world – now being seen on the streets. It’s a fun and whimsical way to change your look, add some drama or just to play! There are even templates available for you to master the technique – but really, a brow pencil is all you need. You can start out with just a smattering of freckles across the bridge of your nose and on to the cheeks – or go full on with a full face of cuteness! Using a brow or lip pencil, simply “dot” over the area you want to add some freckles – change up the size by applying more pressure – and voila! You now have freckles! Try pencils by maccosmetics in spice or taupe. Be bold and use colour! Yes, colour!!!!! Simply use eye pencils in shades of blue, green and even pink to add a bit of whimsy to your look!
The 90’s goth look has returned as the “Vamp” – with an updated and modern twist in shades varying from soft berry to dark brown – matte or glossy – it all works! Similar to wearing bold lip colours of red or pink, the Vamp lip needs to be the focus, so keep the rest of your makeup neutral. A fresh approach to this makeup is to skip the eye liner, add a bit of pink blush to the cheek to give a “flushed” look (try “dandelion” by benefit cosmetics), a slightly bolder brow to balance the face, add mascara – good to go! This is another of the makeup trends that can be worn by all ages and skin tones – choice of colour and texture makes the difference. Lighter skin tones should opt for a soft berry to avoid the pale goth look – while darker skin tones can definitely choose a dark brown or rich purple to carry out this look! Some great shades to try – simply Vamp by nyxcosmetics, black Dahlia by OCC and creme de cassis by Laura Mercier. Most items available at sephora.ca
Makeup should be fun – so why not give some of these makeup trends a try! Play around with colour – try something new – discover your beauty!
