Want to know what’s in my kit? Let’s start with my Fav Foundations! Next to a good skin care routine, foundation is a major part of a fantastic makeup. There are an infinite number of brands and formulations available on the market – and in my kit, I carry everything from powders to creams and liquids. This way, I am prepared for any job, any look or any coverage that I may need. First, let me explain that coverage doesn’t mean – or need – layers and layers of thick ‘paint’ – I’m a firm believer in letting your natural beauty and your skin shine through. The purpose of foundation is to even out the skin tone and hide or cover any imperfections. Coverage is really about the amount of pigment (colour) that is in the product. A tinted moisturizer or BB cream will have very little pigment, therefore the coverage will be minimal. Medium to full coverage foundations have higher pigmentation – they will even out the skin tone and are ‘build able’ by adding more product to the places that need it. Above all, your foundation should never look like a mask – a natural ‘skin like’ finish is what you are after! When purchasing a foundation, think of your skin type – oily, dry, combination – as well as the type of coverage you are looking for. Dry skin works best with liquids and creams, combination and oily skin tends to work best with liquids and powders. Always match the colour to your jaw line – take a compact mirror with you and, if possible, walk outside to natural daylight to see if the colour matches. Here are some of my Fav Foundations that I carry in my kit:
The Ultra Foundation is highly pigmented, lightweight and long lasting. The build able coverage has a soft focus, dewy finish that is outstanding on all skin tones, types and ages! It has a great shade range – as well as correctors available for the pro artist who likes to mix. It’s a ‘go to’ product in my kit – it looks fantastic on camera! Available here
Maifanshi Aqua and Moisture Foundations: the Aqua is a liquid mineral foundation that mimics the ‘post facial’ glow – it is glorious and gives a dewy, youthful finish. The Moisture (tube) is a mineral cream with a light feel that instantly minimizes pores, fine lines and imperfections. It is lacking in shade range though. Available here
Magic Foundation is for all skin types, tones and ages – covers all imperfections, but feels weightless – has a pretty decent shade range too. I have quite a bit of Charlotte Tilbury in my kit and have been very happy with the results – this is the newest addition to the line. Available here and here
Make Up For Ever
Ultra HD Foundation – Liquid: The HD liquid foundation is great for all skin types, it’s lightweight with a medium, build able coverage and a ‘second skin’ texture. It truly has a natural, no makeup look on camera and in person – but enough pigmentation to even out the tone. It has an amazing selection of 40 shades!
Ultra HD Foundation – Stick: The HD Stick is also great for all skin types, with a creamier texture providing medium to full coverage. It blends well into skin – looking natural while concealing imperfections – makes skin look even toned and moisturized. It comes in 15 shades. Both the liquid and the stick are available here
Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation – micro milled powders diffuse light to conceal wrinkles and imperfections. Great for all skin types, but particularly good for combination and oily. This powder is great for full face application with a powder brush and I sometimes sweep it over liquid foundation for added coverage. In my kit, I use powder foundations on Men for grooming and on very young skin that needs a slight touch up to even tone. UD Naked Skin is one of my fav powders, but I also use MAC studio fix and MUFE Duo Mat Powder. Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder is available here
There are so many foundations available today that you should be able to find one that works for your skin type, skin tone and your lifestyle! Ask for samples when possible and experiment! As always – have fun with your Makeup!!
